
National Golf Tourism Industry Tees Off Golf Season With Kinsale Event

Golf Tourism Industry representatives from across the island of Ireland landed into Kinsale on Wed 11th April 2012 for a National Tournament & Gala Evening event run by the IGTOA –Ireland Golf Tour Operator Association. The “2012 IGTOA Killeen House Trophy & Social Evening” was hosted by Kinsale based golf tourism companies Old Head Golf Links, Trident Hotel, Ballinacurra House, The White Lady Hotel & 19th Hole Bar & Restaurant, Carlton Hotel Kinsale and Kinsale Executive Travel, Coach & Limousine Hire.
This year’s event took place in conjunction with Official Media Partners Golf Digest Ireland & Golfing Magazine, Cork Convention Bureau, Titanic 100 Cobh, Kinsale Chamber of Tourism and had a special “Titanic Commemorative” theme to the Gala Banquet which has hosted at The Trident Hotel.
Over 80 golfers headed off on a shotgun start on the fairways of Old Head Golf Links, and a group of delegates took to the high seas with Sovereign Sailing around the Old Head of Kinsale, they enjoyed a lunch at The Carlton Hotel, Kinsale and then spent the afternoon learning all about the history of Kinsale with well renowned tour guide Dermot Ryan of Kinsale Heritage Walks.
The evening event kicked off with a very special “ World Wines & Gourmet Nibbles” reception at the prestigious Ballinacurra House, hosted by proprietors Des and Lisa McGahan. Guests enjoyed a tour of the magnificent country estate, live entertainment and wines. The Gala Evening Banquet was then hosted by the Trident Hotel offering guests the same menu as the night of the 14th April 2012 aboard the R.M. S Titanic. Mayor of Cork County Tim Lombard spoke of the importance of promoting the top class golf tourism product of Cork County. A special presentation was made to Mayor Councillor Tim Lombard by Norman Pratt, Managing director of the Newspaper Book Company –who presented the Mayor with a historic collection of newspaper articles reaching back 100 years on the R.M.S. Titanic.

This year’s winner of the 2012 IGTOA Killeen House Trophy Tournament was Ms. Kyra Donworth, Managing Director of JD Golf Tours in Shannon, Co. Clare.
The "IGTOA Killeen House Trophy" Tournament has been hosted by the IGTOA for many years across the island of Ireland with the support of hoteliers Michael & Geraldine Rosney, Killeen House Hotel, Killarney who presented the original trophy to the IGTOA back in 1998.This event has gained national momentum in recent years to be now positioned as a leading Irish Golf Tourism Networking Event, signalling the kick start of the Irish golfing season.
